Many Partners — One Goal: Survival in the 21st Century

Each year hundreds of animal species are exterminated world-wide through the destruction of their habitats and other human activities. The aim of Stiftung Artenschutz (Species Conservation Foundation), founded in March 2001, is to preserve highly endangered animal species and their habitats, therefore making an important contribution to conserving biodiversity. The foundation focuses on animal species (and their natural environment) which, although under severe threat of global extinction according to "The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species" of the World Conservation Union (IUCN), do not have a lobby strong enough for their conservation.

Stiftung Artenschutz achieves its goals as a joint initiative of currently 47 zoos and several nature conservation organisations which do public relations and provide financial support. International wildlife conservation reaches a new dimension through this concentration of specialists and funds. The work of the foundation and its partners and the commitment of the sponsors are effectively communicated to over 20 million people every year.

Amphibian Conservation Fund

Call for Proposals 2017

Prompted by the alarming global decline of amphibian species, zoo associations, zoos and private participants in the German-speaking region engaged actively in the conservation of this highly endangered group of animal species. The amphibian conservation program consists of a suite of measures that include amphibian conservation and research projects, conservation breeding, capacity building, specialized staff training, habitat restoration and public awareness campaigns. A special account “Amphibian Conservation Fund” was set up for financing amphibian conservation measures. Stiftung Artenschutz (Species Conservation Foundation) holds the Amphibian Conservation Fund in trust for the zoo associations, zoos and private participants in the German-speaking region, which decide on the allocation of funds.
